TagBox

Tidy up your desktop with the use of tags! TagBox is a free tag-based file organizer that lets you assign self-defined tags to your files and search them using queries or by exploring them in a similar way to your system file explorer.

Why are tags better? When used to organize data, they are superior to traditional hierarchical file systems, where each item has to belong to only one containing folder at a time. Tags eliminate this limitation and give you more possibilities in organizing your data. How so? Imagine you create 3 folders to store your pictures: 'cats', 'dogs' and 'hamsters'. And then you take a picture of dog and cat together. What you're gonna do now? Waste disk space by copying the picture and putting it in both folders? Or make unnecessary mess in your file system by creating a symlink pointing to the original picture? Using TagBox, that's the thing of the past! Now you can simply add the picture to your TagBox Drive (that is, special "Drive" folder in the app folder) and describe it in the app using tags, making sure that your data is never duplicated again in order to be properly organized. And later, if you want to find all pictures with cats, you simply search for all files with #cat, and that's all! Moreover, you can also search for files without this tag, or even create more complex queries like: "all files with #cat and #dog, but without #mouse". And to make things even easier, you can also define tag dependencies - for example, #cat implies #animal. Then all files with #cat will also have #animal added automatically. And if you miss the traditional file explorer feel, with folders and paths to them, TagBox lets you define any tag as "virtual folder" that will be presented in the app's "explore" section as if it was a normal folder, letting you easily see its contents (=all files having this tag) without the need to create a query for that.

TagBox doesn't use network at all because it simply helps you organize files on your computer. The app doesn't take much disk space and is available for Windows (recommended Windows 7 or newer) and Linux (recommended Debian-based distribution).
